Organic Isle of Wight Heirloom Tomatoes | Vibrant, Full of Flavour & Unlike Any Supermarket Tomato
Grown on the Isle of Wight — the UK's most celebrated tomato-growing region — our Organic Isle of Wight Heirloom Tomatoes are a collection of heritage varieties in a stunning range of colours, shapes and sizes. What they share is an extraordinary depth of flavour: rich, complex and intensely sweet in ways that standard supermarket tomatoes — bred for shelf life rather than taste — simply cannot replicate. Perfect for summer salads where the tomatoes are the star, outstanding blitzed into a homemade sauce, and beautiful as a centrepiece dish with good olive oil and sea salt.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are heirloom tomatoes?
Heirloom tomatoes are open-pollinated heritage varieties that have been grown and saved for generations — as opposed to the F1 hybrid varieties developed for supermarkets that prioritise shelf life, uniformity and transportability over flavour. Heirloom varieties come in extraordinary shapes, sizes and colours — from deep purple-black to bright yellow, striped green to oxblood red — and each has its own distinct flavour character. They are universally more flavoursome than standard commercial tomatoes.
Why are Isle of Wight tomatoes so highly regarded?
The Isle of Wight benefits from more sunshine hours than almost anywhere else in the UK — close to Mediterranean levels in summer. This extended sunshine exposure allows tomatoes to develop their sugars and flavour compounds far more fully than on the mainland. The island has built a reputation over decades as producing the finest tomatoes in Britain, and heirloom varieties grown there are genuinely exceptional.
What's the best way to serve heirloom tomatoes?
Simply — these tomatoes are good enough to be the centrepiece. Slice thickly, arrange on a plate and dress with your finest olive oil, good sea salt and torn fresh basil. A panzanella salad — torn bread, tomatoes, red onion, capers and olive oil — is another outstanding option. They're also spectacular in a tomato sauce where the variety of flavours produces something more complex than a single-variety sauce.
Should I refrigerate them?
Never — refrigeration destroys the volatile aromatic compounds responsible for a tomato's flavour. Keep at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Use within 3–5 days. The more unusual varieties may have a shorter window at peak ripeness — check daily and eat when they yield slightly to gentle pressure.
