Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Bakers Potatoes so good for roasting?
Bakers Potatoes are a floury variety with a high starch content — which means they fluff up beautifully when roasted or baked, developing a crisp exterior and a fluffy, flavoursome interior. This is exactly what you want for roasties: a proper crust and a cloud-like centre. They also mash brilliantly for the same reason — high starch equals smooth, creamy mash.
What's the best way to get perfect roast potatoes?
Par-boil for 15 minutes until the edges are just starting to soften, then drain and shake the pan vigorously to rough up the surfaces — this is what creates the crust. Roast in very hot fat (beef dripping, goose fat or good olive oil) at 220°C for 45–50 minutes, turning once halfway. Season generously with sea salt. Don't overcrowd the tray.
Are they certified organic?
Yes — all our fruit and vegetables are sourced from certified organic farms that grow without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. They come in natural shapes and sizes rather than uniform supermarket grades — this is a sign of genuinely organic produce, not a quality issue.
How should I store them?
Store in a cool, dark place — a cupboard, cellar or garage is ideal. Never refrigerate potatoes — the cold converts starch to sugar and affects both the flavour and the way they cook. Keep away from onions, which accelerate sprouting. Use within 1–2 weeks of delivery.
