Sentidiño Albariño | Rías Baixas White Wine, Galicia

Made by Bodegas Gallegas in the Salnés Valley — just five kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean — this Sentidiño Albariño is a vibrant, aromatic expression of one of Spain's greatest white grapes. Winemaker Carlos Blanco works with 250 growers across 120 hectares of patchwork coastal vineyards, sourcing fruit from three subzones of Rías Baixas to create a wine of beautiful balance and complexity. 'Sentidiño' is a Galician word meaning common sense — used by local fishermen who have the wisdom not to take the wild Atlantic waters for granted.

Tom's Note: A truly vibrant wine with a hint of citrus — superbly refreshing.

Tasting Notes

Youthful and vibrantly aromatic on the nose with tangerine, jasmine and fresh grass. The palate shows zesty acidity with juicy grapefruit and white peach, leading to a refreshing, saline finish with the characteristic Atlantic freshness of the region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Albariño?

Albariño is Spain's most celebrated white grape variety, grown almost exclusively in the Rías Baixas region of coastal Galicia in north-west Spain. It produces wines of high natural acidity, vibrant aromatics and a distinctive saline, mineral character that reflects the Atlantic climate. The thick skins of the grape make it well-suited to the region's high rainfall, and the late ripening produces a naturally fresh, aromatic style.

What makes Rías Baixas special?

Rías Baixas has the highest rainfall of any wine region in Spain, a cool Atlantic climate, and granite-based soils that impart a distinctive mineral character to the wines. The combination produces Albariños of exceptional freshness and complexity — quite unlike anything else from the Iberian Peninsula. The coastal location means the wines have a characteristic saline, oceanic quality.

Should I chill it?

Yes — serve at 8–10°C for the freshest, most aromatic expression. Albariño is best drunk young and fresh — within 2–3 years of the vintage — to preserve its vibrant citrus and floral aromatics, though the acidity gives it the structure to develop interestingly over a few years.

What food does it pair with?

Seafood above all — prawns, langoustines, clams, sea bass and turbot are all classic pairings. Also excellent with grilled chicken, light pasta dishes and fresh goat's cheese. The vibrant acidity and saline finish make it one of the most food-friendly white wines available.
