The Estate Dairy Cultured Butter | Rich, Complex & Grass-Fed
Made by The Estate Dairy using cream from their own grass-fed herd, The Estate Dairy Cultured Butter is a premium artisan butter made the traditional way — cream fermented with a lactic culture before churning, developing a rich, rounded complexity that standard butters simply can't match. The result is a deeply flavoursome, golden butter with a natural tang, a silky texture and a finish that lingers. Outstanding on good bread, melted over vegetables or used in baking where the flavour makes its presence felt.
Why You'll Love It
🧈 Lactic Culture, Traditional Method – Cream is fermented before churning, producing a far more complex flavour than uncultured butter.
🌿 Grass-Fed Herd – Rich, golden milk from pasture-reared cows gives this butter its distinctive depth and colour.
🐄 From The Estate Dairy – Small-batch, premium artisan production with complete farm-to-butter traceability.
A Cut Above the Rest
The Estate Dairy Cultured Butter is a superb everyday artisan butter — but for something with a specific flavour profile to pair with beef or lamb, explore our Sublime Béarnaise Butter, Sublime Chimichurri Butter or the indulgent Truffle, Parmesan & Black Pepper.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes cultured butter different?
Cultured butter is made by fermenting cream with live lactic acid cultures before churning — the same process used for crème fraîche. This develops a richer, more complex flavour with a natural tang that standard uncultured butter doesn't have. It's how most Continental artisan butters are produced, and the difference in flavour is immediately apparent — especially on good bread where nothing else competes.
Why does grass-fed butter taste better?
Grass-fed cows produce milk with a higher proportion of beta-carotene — giving the cream (and resulting butter) a deeper golden colour and a richer, more complex flavour. The varied diet of pasture grasses and wildflowers also adds nuance that grain-fed milk simply doesn't have. You'll notice it most clearly when the butter is used simply — on bread, over vegetables or melted onto grilled fish.
What's the best way to use it?
Spread generously on good sourdough or toast. Melt over grilled or roasted vegetables in the final minutes of cooking. Use in baking where a premium butter makes a genuine difference — shortbread, pastry and sauces all benefit significantly. Also excellent stirred through mashed potato or risotto just before serving for a rich, glossy finish.
How should I store it?
Keep refrigerated. Best used within the date shown on packaging. Can be frozen on day of delivery — defrost in the fridge and use within 24 hours of defrosting.
