From Poggio al Tesoro — the Bolgheri estate of the Allegrini family, situated next door to the legendary Ornellaia — the Sondraia is a Bordeaux-blend Super Tuscan that has quickly become a classic of the Bolgheri area. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from two exceptional vineyard sites — the Via Bolgherese and Le Sondraie — it is a wine of intense dark fruit, smoky tobacco, herbs and sweet spice, silky smooth on the palate with profound elegance and a long finish.

Tasting Notes
Intense and complex on the nose with fresh dark fruit — blackcurrant, plum, dark cherry — complemented by smoky tobacco, herbs and sweet spices. The palate is silky smooth and profoundly elegant with excellent structure, beautifully ripe tannins and a long, persistent finish. A wine that demonstrates Bolgheri's ability to produce world-class Bordeaux blends.

What is a Super Tuscan?
Super Tuscans are Italian red wines made outside the traditional DOC/DOCG rules — typically Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) grown in Tuscany. They emerged in the 1970s when innovative Tuscan producers began using French varieties and oak ageing that wasn't permitted under traditional Italian wine law. The results were so impressive that they commanded higher prices than the officially classified wines and created a new category. Bolgheri — home to Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Masseto — is the spiritual heartland of the Super Tuscan movement.
Who are Poggio al Tesoro?
Poggio al Tesoro is the Bolgheri estate of the Allegrini family — one of Italy's great wine families, better known for their Valpolicella Classico wines including Amarone and La Grola. The Bolgheri estate sits next door to the legendary Ornellaia estate and the Sondraia is named after one of their key vineyard sites.
Should I decant it?
Absolutely — decant for at least 60–90 minutes before serving. At 15% ABV with serious structure and tannin, Sondraia needs time to open up and show its full complexity. Serve at 17–18°C. It will age beautifully for 15–20 years from the vintage.
